Artist Sanzhar Zhubanov to Help Shape the Cultural Identity of Almaty SuperSki

Kazakh artist Sanzhar Zhubanov will contribute to shaping the cultural and historical identity of the future Almaty SuperSki mountain resort. To this end, he has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Kazakh Tourism Development Ltd., the company implementing the project on the Kok-Zhailau plateau. The document formalizes the parties’ intentions to develop the cultural and historical component of the future mountain resort.
The memorandum was signed by Yerzhan Yerkinbayev, Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakh Tourism Development Ltd., and artist Sanzhar Zhubanov. The agreement is of a framework nature and has been concluded for a period of five years, with the possibility of extension by mutual consent.
According to the document, one of the key areas of cooperation will be the creation of artistic interpretations of petroglyphs and rock carvings discovered in various regions of Kazakhstan. The artist will also participate in developing a concept for integrating archaeological sites into the resort’s tourism and educational environment.
“Almaty SuperSki is not merely a tourism infrastructure project; it is a space where nature, history, and culture come together organically. The heritage of Kok-Zhailau spans thousands of years, and our task is to preserve it and make it accessible to the resort’s guests. Cooperation with Sanzhar Zhubanov will allow us to create a unique cultural layer within the project, grounded in the authentic historical evidence of this land,” said Yerzhan Yerkinbayev.
In addition to his artistic work, Sanzhar Zhubanov will contribute to the development of informational and wayfinding materials accompanying the resort’s archaeological sites, and will take part in public events and professional discussions dedicated to the area's cultural and historical heritage.
The parties will also place special emphasis on the educational component of the initiative, focusing on the development of a visual and conceptual language that is understandable and engaging for both Kazakhstani and international visitors.
«Petroglyphs of Kok-Zhailau are the voices of our ancestors, reaching us through stone and time. Through artistic expression, I strive to demonstrate the continuity of generations and make ancient symbols meaningful to contemporary audiences. It is important to me that visitors to the future resort see not only the mountains, but also the cultural code of this land», - emphasized Sanzhar Zhubanov.
As part of the cooperation, the company will provide the artist with organizational and informational support, as well as access to materials related to the identified archaeological sites. The parties also agreed to jointly promote the project as a unique tourism destination that harmoniously combines natural, sporting, and cultural-historical values.
The signing of the memorandum continues the project's efforts to build a broad network of partners among Kazakhstan’s representatives of science, culture, and sport. Previously, Almaty SuperSki signed similar agreements with a number of domestic experts and public figures in the fields of ecology, tourism, and mountain area development.
