Around 5,000 Jobs to Be Created Under the Almaty Superski Project – Announced at the Eurasian Mountain Tourism Forum

The Almaty Superski ski resort project was presented at the international Eurasian Mountain Tourism Development Forum, held in Almaty as part of the III Festival of the Eurasian Alliance of Mountain Resorts (EAMR). The project operator of the Almaty Superski resort is Kazakh Tourism Development (KTD). KTD Chief Executive Officer Yerzhan Yerkinbayev noted that approximately 5,000 jobs are expected to be created within the framework of the resort. This would allow the complex to become one of the largest employers in the region and provide momentum for the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the city.

The project includes the construction of 60 kilometers of ski slopes of varying difficulty levels and 16 next-generation cable cars with a total capacity of more than 10,000 visitors per day. During the implementation phase, particular attention will be given to environmental considerations. A resource consumption and CO₂ emissions monitoring system will be introduced to ensure transparency and compliance with ESG principles.

In total, the project will occupy approximately 1,002 hectares, or less than 0.5% of the territory of the Ile-Alatau National Park. Of this area, only 20 hectares will be allocated for the resort village. “We are working closely with national research institutes conducting comprehensive studies of the local flora and fauna within the project area. Our position is not to ‘rush into construction,’ but to first obtain a scientifically grounded assessment of the territory’s condition. The nature of Kok-Zhailau is viewed as a value that must be preserved to the greatest extent possible, while also making it accessible to a broad range of Kazakhstanis, including people with limited mobility, the elderly, and families with young children,” said Yerzhan Yerkinbayev.

In his speech, the CEO of KTD also emphasized that Almaty Superski is not just a ski resort, but an initiative aimed at economic diversification, as well as the development of tourism and mass sports. The project is expected to become the core of the Almaty Mountain Cluster and enable Kazakhstan to establish its own international brand in mountain tourism, strengthening the country’s position in the global tourism market.
